e-PHOTON ONE  IST NoE E-photon/One (2004-2006)

The Network of Excellence (NoE) e-Photon/ONe, funded by the European Commission within the Sixth Framework Programme, focuses on the 'Broadband for All' strategic objective of the IST 1st call, targeting network-oriented and system-oriented aspects of the optically enabled broadband. The Network of Excellence (NoE) aims at integrating and focusing the rich know-how available in Europe on optical communication and networks, both in universities and in research centres of major telecom manufacturers and operators. The basic technical goal of e-Photon/ONe is to foster the introduction of optical technologies in telecommunication networks beyond point-to-point transmission, and to show the advantages offered by optical technologies to telecommunication networks with respect to electronic technologies. Our group participated in workpackages WP5, WP10, WP1, WP7 which referred to ultra-broadband transmission and all-optical processing systems, electro-optical switching cost-effective solutions and optical access networks.
